Start with a brief everyone can answer

Write down the work, the location, your ideal timing and what is already on site. Add clear photos if they will help a business understand the job. If you are unsure which trade to ask for, describe the problem in ordinary words.

• Name the outcome you want, not just a trade: for example, ‘stop the AC leak in my JVC flat’.
• Mention access limits, materials you already have and any deadline that matters.
• Send the same brief to each business so their replies are easier to compare.

Look at the business behind the price

Browse by trade and emirate. Check the services and areas on each profile, then look at finished projects and the detail in reviews. A rating is one signal; the scope of past work matters too.

Compare the work each quote includes

A useful quote explains what will be done, what is included, when the business can start and how long it expects the work to take. A lower price may cover a narrower scope. Ask about differences before choosing.

• Check the materials, quantities and finish each business has priced.
• Ask which preparation, clean-up and changes are included or excluded.
• Clarify timing, payment stages and any warranty the business offers.

Agree the details before work starts

Put the final scope, price, schedule and payment terms in writing with the business. Ask who is responsible for any building access or approvals your job may need. Requirements vary by property and location, so confirm them with the business and the relevant building or authority.
